Calimesa: Major Crash Between Two Big Rigs and a Car Cause Freeway Shutdown
CALIMESA – On 12-12-2019 at about 10:23 pm, Cal Fire responded to reports of a major crash involving a two big rigs on the I-10 eastbound under the Cherry Valley Blvd overpass.
Arriving crews located a white semi on the right hand side of the freeway with rear damage to it’s trailer, a red semi completely destroyed and blocking lanes and a grey sedan with major damage resting with it’s rear end against the center divider.
According to initial reports, the red semi collided with the rear of the white semi that was parked on the shoulder. The red truck possibly rolled following the initial crash and collided with the sedan.
At least 2 patients were transported by ambulance to local hospitals, one with minor injuries and one with major injuries.
CHP requested a SIG alert and hard closure the 10 eastbound pending the clearing of the roadway and conclusion of the investigation.
Hazmat and environmental health were dispatched to the scene due to a large diesel spill that was leaking into a drain from the mangled red semi.
The cause of the crash is under investigation and still to be determined.
