Desert Center: Drivers Stranded after Major Roadway Flooding Caused by Recent Storms
DESERT CENTER – On 11-19-2019 beginning around 10:00 pm, the recent storms in Southern California caused heavy flooding in Desert Center on hwy 177 near Eagle Mountain causing drivers to stop or attempt to wade the 4 to 5 foot tall rivers of water.
Nearby, at the Vidal junction and along hwy 62 and 95 dozens of vehicles were reported to have been swept away by the waters with drivers still inside or others trapped.
Cal Trans set a hard closure for the northbound and southbound 95 just north of the Vidal junction due to heavy flooding.
Cal Fire is busy with rescue attempts of drivers who have been trapped or swept away. The main roads leading to the Vidal junction were heavily flooded.
The only vehicles that attempted to pass through the flooded areas along hwy 177 were semi trucks or other vehicles with high clearance.
