HEMET – On 10/06/2020 at approximately midnight, Hemet Fire responded to a commercial structure fire in the 1400 block of East Florida Ave following multiple reports of flames and smoke coming from the Aaron’s furniture store located in the strip mall at the intersection with Florida Ave and San Jacinto Ave.

Heavy fire was located in the roof and at the rear of the building. Hemet requested assistance from Cal Fire and neighboring agencies due to a difficult to control fire that had established itself in a void space in the roof which made accessing the fire challenging.

Eventually firefighters gained access to the fire and knockdown was achieved in about 40-45 minutes.

The building suffered minimal interior damage including minimal damage to the contents of the structure. Most of the damage was to the exterior of the building.

The fire appears to have started in the rear of the building and then extended into the roof arising suspicion about possible arson. The fire is currently under investigation.
