HEMET – On 08/15/2020 at about 9:30pm, Hemet Police Officers responded to the 1000 block of N. Buena Vista Street after receiving a call of a man bleeding from his head and reports of shots being heard in the area. A 29-year-old male with a serious head injury was located and transported to Hemet Valley Medical Center by ambulance, but died a short time later. The main suspect, a 30-year-old man from San Jacinto was identified by investigators following interviews and evidence collection. Officers and Deputies in the area began looking for him immediately.

On 08/16/2020 at approximately 6:00am, Hemet Police Officers located the homicide suspect’s vehicle in the 400 Block of N. Palm Avenue. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop but the driver fled. During the pursuit, the suspect led officers into San Jacinto and then ultimately back to Hemet.

The vehicle stopped in the 500 block of N. San Jacinto Street and the suspect got out of the car with a gun in his hand. An officer involved shooting occurred at that time. The man fell to the ground and emergency medical aid was called. The man was soon pronounced deceased at the scene. No officers were injured during this incident.

The Hemet Police Detective Bureau is investigating the initial homicide case and the Riverside County District Attorney’s Bureau of Investigation is investigating the officer involved shooting portion of this complex investigation. The names of the initial victim and the deceased suspect are not being released at this time, pending notifications of next of kin.

Upon arrival, officers found an unresponsive 29-year-old man with a serious head injury. He was transported to Hemet Valley Medical Center by ambulance, but died a short time later.

Investigators from the Hemet Police Detective bureau are still on-scene at the time of this release. The detectives are trying to determine a motive for this tragic event as well as the exact cause of death.

The name of the victim is not being released at this time pending notification of family.
